Planning In Practice

In practice, a Forest Practices Plan is comprised of two parts:

  • A written description of all operations and what should be done, by whom, and when. It covers the harvesting system and reforestation provisions, including site preparation techniques, road construction details, orientation of windrows, direction of ploughing, planting technique and spacing of plants, monitoring and maintenance regimes together with fertilizing, pest and disease control, measures that may be used for weed and browsing control, repairs to fencing and roads, and fire hazard reduction.
  • A detailed map showing topography, streams, streamside reserve requirements and any buffer strips, landscape reserves, the location and standard of any roads and tracks, landings and loading points, and any snig tracks.
