Regulation & Certification

Planning In Summary

In summary, the formal Tasmanian system includes the following key elements:

  • Specific Forest Practices Legislation (Forest Practices Act, 1985)
  • A contemporary and comprehensive Forest Practices Code (last revised in 2000), which is regularly reviewed to take account of the latest research knowledge and public opinion.
  • An independent Forest Practices Board administering and auditing the application of the Act and the Code.
  • A requirement to apply the Code to all forest practices on public and private land.

The FPA may impose penalties and take legal action where breaches of the Act are identified.
